Paragomphus machadoi Pinhey, 1961
Forest Hooktail

Synonyms:

  • scientific: P. interruptus Cammaerts, 1968

Type locality: Dundo, Angola

Diagnosis

Male is similar to P. cognatus and P. serrulatus by (a) pale thoracic markings uniformly yellow to greenish; (b) postdorsal stripes well-separated from collar; (c) costa at least black anterior to Pt; (d) cerci slender, at least 1.5x as long as S10; apices of cerci diverge, are thick, truncate, often coarsely toothed; (e) epiproct longer, almost as long as S10 or longer, not so strongly curved upwards; epiproct does not reach midpoint of cerci, with distinct median knobs. However, differs by (1) ranging from DRC to C Africa; (2) outer border of anal triangle sharply, almost rectangularly, kinked at its most distal cell; (3) S5-6 largely black; (4) cerci narrowed at apex, often with prominent distal spine.
