Diagnosis
No full diagnosis of this species is presently available. With S. orichalcea, the mature male is the only damselfly with (almost) completely dark wings occurring from eastern Nigeria to DRC and Angola, but the taxonomic separation from that species is unresolved.
Habitat description
Mostly streams, but also rivers, usually in open areas in forest, but sometimes shaded. Usually with coarse detritus and often rocks, a gravelly and/or sandy bottom, and probably overhanging branches and/or submerged roots. From 0 to 900 m above sea level, but mostly below 800.
